Unit 4: Poetry (Creative Short Story)
Write a creative short story that is 2.5-3 pages in length (more is okay, less is not). You will follow traditional MLA format (for the most part). You do not have to stick to a traditional 5 paragraph essay. You may have multiple paragraphs that are much smaller in length if you prefer. As long as you stick to 12 point font, Times New Roman, and double spacing, you have flexibility with the format of the paragraphs themselves.
You can choose ANY topic, as long as I approve it. If you choose to mimic Poe, and write about "more mature" topics, you need to keep me in the loop throughout the entire process. You do not want to keep me in the dark, and then get referred to administration because I am concerned about the content of your story once I grade it.
Stories should include dialogue, strong adjectives, literary devices (imagery, symbolism, metaphors, and much more!). Think about stories/movies you like, and implement the subjects that you enjoy!
You can use italics, bolding, inner thoughts for characters, journal entry format (like Flowers for Algernon). Get creative!
Choose a genre: mystery, horror, sci-fi, action, etc., and come up with the "3 biggies"-beginning, middle, and end. I don't need to know the nitty gritty, I just need to know the 3 main ideas of the story....you can fill in the nitty gritty as you go. Make sure that your story ends up following a traditional plot line:
